Finding and Fixing Bathroom Leaks Before They Get Worse
A bathroom leak is one of those problems that can be sitting quietly behind a wall or under a floor for longer than you would think before it actually shows itself. By the time you notice water stains, soft flooring, or a musty smell, there is often already some damage that needs attention alongside the plumbing fix itself.
Bathroom leaks can come from a number of places, and working out exactly where the water is coming from is usually the most important part of the job. We have seen leaks traced back to failed shower waterproofing, loose pipe fittings behind walls, worn seals around baths and basins, and even leaking pipework from a bathroom on the floor above in apartment buildings.
Common Signs of a Bathroom Leak
- Water stains or discolouration on walls or ceilings below the bathroom
- Soft, spongy or lifting flooring near the shower, bath or toilet
- A musty or damp smell that will not go away with cleaning
- Grout or sealant that looks fine but water still seems to be getting through
- A noticeable rise in water usage with no obvious explanation
How We Approach Bathroom Leak Detection
Rather than guessing based on where the damage is showing, we look at the whole picture, including the age of the waterproofing, the condition of pipework, and how the bathroom was originally built. This matters particularly in older homes and apartment complexes, where the source of a leak is not always directly below where the water is appearing.
Once we know where the leak is actually coming from, we will explain what is involved in the repair, whether that is resealing, replacing a section of pipe, or addressing a waterproofing issue that may need to involve other trades.
Bathroom leaks rarely fix themselves and tend to cause more damage the longer they are left. If you have noticed any signs of a leak in your bathroom, call Watermark Plumbing on 0417 620 502 and we will help you get to the bottom of it.
